Welcome to ATLA!

ATLA is the professional association for teachers of lipreading to adults who have become deaf, or hard of hearing.

Under our constitution we aim to promote understanding of the special needs of people with an acquired hearing loss.In September 1975, the Advisory Committee on Services to Hearing Impaired People (ACSHIP), set up by the DHSS, found that:

"In most cases patients can benefit from some lipreading instruction, and for the majority of active adults it may be the most important element in their rehabilitation."

Registered charity number: 1000008
