Teacher TrainingTeachers of Lipreading (Speechreading) to Adults work with people who have an acquired hearing loss - that is people who are hard of hearing or deafened. They do not normally work with children.
There are two lipreading teachers' training courses in England, one course in Scotland, and one course in Ireland:
- London - at the City Literary Institute
- Manchester - at the Manchester Metropolitan University
- Edinburgh
- Dublin

We are often asked why local colleges do not run lipreading teacher training courses - the simple answer is that the training is too specialised for it to be feasible for colleges to run the course. Each geographic area can sustain only small numbers of qualified lipreading teachers.
